How do I cash out a token that only trades against a dead coin

You cannot cash out a token that only trades against a dead coin, because the dead coin is worthless and no one will buy it. The liquidity pool that pairs your token with the dead coin still exists, but the dead coin side has no real value, so selling your token into that pool only gives you more dead coins you cannot spend.

You send from your own wallet straight to the exchanger — nothing to connect, no account, and you stay on this page throughout. Rates are indicative until a swap is opened.

The swap is carried out by an independent exchanger and the deposit address above is theirs. lowcap.xyz never holds, receives or controls your funds, has no key to that address, and earns a referral commission. Opening a swap sends your receiving address, IP, browser and timezone to the exchanger for their compliance checks; we store none of it. Check their terms, fees and country restrictions before sending anything.

Here is why that situation happens and what your options are.

A "dead coin" is a token that has lost all trading activity, has no buyers, and often has a development team that abandoned it. When a token only trades against a dead coin, the original project likely launched on that pair, or the only liquidity ever provided was in that pairing. Over time, holders of the dead coin left, and the remaining liquidity pool became a one-way trap. You can still swap your token for the dead coin through a decentralized exchange, but you will receive the dead coin - which you also cannot sell for any usable asset like USDC, ETH, or SOL.

The core problem is liquidity depth. Your token’s only market is a pool where the other asset has zero demand. Even if that pool shows a price, the price is meaningless because no one is willing to buy the dead coin at any rate. You are effectively swapping one unsellable token for another.

What you can try, in order of likelihood, is:

  1. Look for a multi-hop route. Some DEX aggregators or swap interfaces will try to route your token through several pools to reach a stablecoin or a major coin. If your token also has a small liquidity pool against, say, USDC or ETH that you missed, the aggregator might find it. But if the only pair is the dead coin, no route exists.

  2. Check if the dead coin is actually dead. Sometimes a token is called "dead" because its price dropped 99% and nobody talks about it, but it still has a thin market on a centralized exchange or a larger DEX. If the dead coin can still be swapped for something else - even at a terrible rate - you could swap your token to the dead coin, then swap the dead coin to a usable asset in another pool. This is rare and usually results in near-total loss.

  3. Use a private OTC trade. You can try to find a buyer directly, outside of any exchange. Post on forums, social media, or Discord servers dedicated to that token or its ecosystem. Someone might want your token for speculation or to complete a collection. You negotiate a price and send the token manually; they send you a stablecoin or major coin. This is slow, risky (scams are common), and unlikely for a token that only trades against a dead coin.

  4. Accept the loss. If none of the above works, your token has no exit. You cannot cash out. The only honest answer is that the value is gone. You can keep the token in case the dead coin magically revives, but that is gambling on a near-zero probability event.

The hub page this belongs to - "Swapping in and out of memecoins" - covers the broader pattern of how memecoin liquidity works and why many tokens end up trapped in dead pairs. The key lesson is to check what a token trades against before you buy it. If the only pair is a coin you have never heard of, or one that has no volume, you may never get out.

In short: if your token only trades against a dead coin, you are holding an asset with no exit. You can try multi-hop swaps, OTC sales, or verifying the dead coin is actually tradeable elsewhere, but the most common outcome is that you cannot cash out at all.
